Jurisdiction Election Data Overview
This section highlights local elections for counties, cities, school districts, and other jurisdictions. If you see results for city council seats, county offices, or district ballot measures, it’s because those races were recorded in at least one of the data sources below.
Data Sources
- Legislative Races (State-Level): We obtain statewide and legislative results from the California Secretary of State’s office.
- Local Races & Measures: Most come from the California Elections Data Archive (CEDA) . CEDA aggregates county-reported election results for local offices and ballot measures (city, county, community college, and school district) going back to 1995.
Why Certain Data May Be Missing
- Labeling Discrepancies: Sometimes, a race or jurisdiction name in the CEDA database doesn’t match perfectly with our records, so we can’t import the results.
- Unopposed Races: If a candidate runs uncontested, there may be no formal election data reported.
- Election Timing: While statewide elections happen every two years, some local seats are up only every four years, so not all years have data.
We do our best to align CEDA entries with their corresponding jurisdictions and contests, but the occasional mismatch or missing contest can still occur. If you don’t see results for a specific race, it might simply mean it wasn’t in CEDA or the jurisdiction had no contest that year.
